Nigeria is often described as a country of unity in diversity. This description probably stems from ttie fact that the country is made up of over 400 linguistic groups, three principal religions, a multiple of socio-political opinions and organisations and varying weaiher and climatic conditions between ihe North and the South.
Nigeria boasts of a plethora of customs and traditions, cultures and festivals, that would appeal to the tastes of the average tourist.
The Mandala Mountains - Nigeria
A website for all ethnographers who are interested in the study of the northern Mandara mountains of N. Cameroon and N.E. Nigeria which are called the northern Mandaras.
The inhabitants are today referred to by English speaking scholars as montagnards, a French word, which replaces the less acceptable term “hill dwellers”.
Sukur - Nigeria. Culture of the Mandara Mountains
In 1999 UNESCO inscribed Sukur, located in the Mandara mountains of northeast Nigeria, on the World Heritage List. The citation calls it an exceptional landscape illustrating a form of land-use that marks a critical stage in human settlement and its relationship with its environment. The cultural landscape of Sukur is also eloquent testimony to a strong and continuing spiritual and cultural tradition that has endured for many centuries.
